If you had the power, would you permanently eliminate Valentine's Day?

Nope. I don't see the point in the backlash against Valentine's Day - what's wrong with celebrating a bit of romance, love, or whatever? If you don't want to, don't.

I didn't know people were shoved into jail if they celebrated love on days other than Valentine's Day... oh right, because they're not.

No one is forced to restrict their love to one day of the year. It's just a huge reminder to appreciate those who you love and love you. Without it, I'm sure many wouldn't celebrate their love at all.

There are so many things going on in life now a days that love is pushed aside. Which is obvious by the rate of divorce.

There's nothing wrong with a reminder of it. If you don't want to partake in the commercialism of it, then it's easy to not do so. You can celebrate your love for someone without spending a dime.

Were you seriously offended by that response? I thought it was quite level headed and made sense.

I too get irritated by people who bang on about Valentine's day. I fully agree that people have the right to celebrate/not celebrate as they choose, but it isn't pleasant to ruin other people's buzz if they want to enjoy it. It would be the same as attacking people for celebrating Christmas/Hanukkah/Diwali. Live and let live.

None taken at all, I don't get stressed by things people say on the net or I'd be in a permanently wound up state.

It is a really hard skill to learn, esp when people are deliberately out to cause a wind-up situation. I guess it's one of those things that comes with time, I used to fire off at the slightest provocation - nowadays I can take a step back and judge whether it's worth my time or not.

I would say they don't have to be, but it's a start (particularly for those that never celebrate).
