Sanctum (2011). Directed by Alister Grierson, and very loosely based on true events. The film starts in Papua New Guinea at the site of a vast cave network. The objective of the mission is to map the cave, and see if it reaches the sea. The weather takes a turn for the worse, and a mix of characters end up trapped in the cave with the only option to see if they can reach the sea. Sanctum is perhaps unsurprisingly a mix of poor soap opera and diving/climbing sequences. Although I didn't watch it in 3D, it's hard to see how this would have significantly improved the latter, and even more so for the former. About the only respect I have for the film was the underwater filming, which must be tough at the best of times. Fans of the formulaic and lukewarm action might get a kick out of it, otherwise best avoided. 2/5 (Poor)
