Film Review: Ted (2012)

(I remembered the other film I watched on the plane!)

Ted (2012). Co-written and directed by Seth MacFarlane. The film starts in the mid-80s with lonely child John Bennett. Following his Christmas present of a teddy bear he wishes that it will come to life and be his best friend. Moving forward to present day Ted is still John's (Mark Wahlberg) best friend, except that he now has all the characteristics of semi-bachelor-wannabe John. When watching the trailer for Ted I did wonder how they were going to stretch what is essentially a one joke plot to the length of a feature film. They do a surprisingly good job, but mostly in the scenes which involve Ted being outrageous. As per usual, for me at least, Wahlberg is fairly forgettable and somewhat out-acted by his love interest played by the weirdly named Mila Kunis. It still ultimately felt like a one joke film with the predictable moral ending. Recommended for some switch-off-brain bloke-y fun, but those who prefer the highbrow will want to avoid. 3/5 (Average)
