Iron Man 3 (2013). Directed by Shane Black and based on the Marvel comic. The story starts with a flashback to 1999. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is at an awards ceremony in Switzerland with a research scientist girlfriend. He is "ambushed" in the lift by another research scientist, Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), who wants Stark to join his company. Stark promises to meet him in a few minutes on the roof, but then heads off with his girlfriend instead. Iron Man 3 unsurprisingly doesn't break any molds for originality. You'd have been hard pushed not to hear it's the darker of the (so far) trilogy, which is sort of the case in a laboured way. The story moves along at a reasonable pace, but felt overly long for me (130 minutes). Downey Jr. is again the star of the show, even though his female co-stars do get a bit more glory this time. Pearce is fine but never really great as the bad guy. With my lack of great interest in comic book heroes and a not-very-original story it was never going to do great things for me. Big fans of the first two films will obviously want to catch this, if they haven't already. 3/5 (Average)
