I haven't done one of these for a while, but as I'm browsing through some film trailers and there's unusually a few decent ones...

The Signal (2014). Two hackers and one of their girlfriends track down clues to find a computer genius and end up unconscious, then held at a military installation. This looks quite interesting as it has some good atmosphere, albeit a potential rip-off of Akira. Already been on the festival circuit, and one in June in the USA. No UK release date. Trailer.

Transcendence (2014). Famous AI researched played by Johnny Depp ends up on his death bed and is uploaded into his research machine. In what looks like a fairly obvious next stage he then becomes evil and tries to take over the world. The worry here is that this will be formulaic, despite Depp. 25th April UK release date. Trailer.

Earth to Echo (2014). Disney release about three boys that find an alien. It doesn't look very adult but might be vaguely fun. 25th July UK release date. Trailer.

Edge of Tomorrow (2014). One of the big Summer blockbusters with Tom Cruise in a Groundhog Day-esque story that instead involves him and another soldier having to repeat their mission over and over until they succeed. It does look vaguely intelligent, so fingers crossed. 30th May UK release date. Trailer.

Under the Skin (2013). A very interesting looking science fiction film by music video director Jonathan Glazer, and based on a novel adaptation. It stars Scarlett Johansson as an alien preying on men in Scotland. It has been on the festival circuit since August last year, and is on a limited release currently in the UK. I suspect I'll have to wait for home video as long distance cinema visits are out of the question. Trailer.

I Origins (2014). Peculiar looking film in which a scientist discovers that reincarnation may exist. On the festival circuit since January, and only has a US release date of July. Trailer.
