John Wick (2014). Written by Derek Kolstad and directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch. The film starts with a car slowly rolling to a stop. A man (Keanu Reeves) stumbles from the car, bleeding profusely from his stomach. He slumps to a sitting position. In flashback we learn that the man had a wife who died from a terminal illness. John Wick isn't anything particularly new. Wronged man goes on murderous revenge spree. And it's quite the spree. The story feels rather silly at times as Wick meets person after person who knows who he is (think Escape From New York), but Reeves doesn't quite carry the gravitas of the larger-than-life character that he's supposed to be. Despite all this the film is well put together and stylishly done, and Reeves does still impress in the role. If you love your comic book/video game violence, and don't mind the simplistic story, then you should enjoy it. 3/5 (Average)
