The Women (2008). Written and directed by Diane English, in turn based on a 1939 film/screenplay, and in turn based on a 1936 play. Mary Haines (Meg Ryan) is the all American career woman, working for her father as a designer, with quirky housekeeper and nanny. Her equally quirky friends discover that her husband is having an affair (with a character played by Eva Mendes), and high jinks result. The Women comes across as a bland feature length episode of Sex in the City. Yep, it's that bad. Meg Ryan's character is stereotyped up the wazoo, and at no moment does it feel like she's showing any genuine emotion nor facing any genuine threat (even though Ryan herself looks great, and almost unchanged from 20 years ago). Sex-in-the-City types might get something from it. Others should avoid. 1/5 (Awful)
