Superman: Doomsday (2007). Directed by Bruce Timm, Lauren Montgomery and Brandon Vietti. An animated feature that initially pits Superman against a creature (Doomsday) uncovered in a Lexcorp mining operation. Superman appears to be killed in the encounter, which leaves Lois Lane and Lex Luthor distressed. I better start the review with the caveat that I'm not a huge fan of animated comic book films, at least of the Marvel/DC Comics/etc. variety. I've yet to see one that isn't decidedly average, and Superman: Doomsday is unfortunately not the exception. The film plods along and just about keeps the brain occupied, and doesn't demonstrate any of the stunning visuals and imaginative story of that which comes from Disney, or more so Studio Ghibli, Katsuhiro Otomo, and Mamoru Oshii. Perhaps that's understandable though as it's formulaic, and the source is arguably the issue. I suspect comic book fans will get something from it, but not a lot. Others will probably want to avoid. 3/5 (Average)

Thank you writing a review of Superman: Doomsday! I haven't seen this movie yet, but I'm tempted to see it anyway out of morbid curiosity. Even though I have a feeling I may be terribly disappointed by the movie because of its very, very bad reviews at amazon.com.

Have you seen the animated movie Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010)?

The Batman one rings a bell. I'll have a look for it.

I checked out the DVD of Superman: Doomsday (2007) from the library today after reading your review. I just finished watching this movie minutes ago. What a terrible movie! So boring. The movie didn't make me feel anything. The movie is so--what are the correct the words?--anemic and lifeless. I didn't feel any sadness when Superman died. I didn't feel any panic when Lois put herself in danger. I didn't feel any excitement during the fight scenes. I was always reluctant to check out this DVD from my local library because of the bad reviews I've seen online. I think all comic fans should avoid Superman: Doomsday.

But you may enjoy Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010). It's a positively praised movies by both comic book fans and online film critics. I loved this movie. I was emotionally moved by this movie. The first part of the movie features the murder of a person very close to Batman. The murder leaves Batman emotionally devastated because he loved this person unconditionally like an adoptive son. If I lost a son to murder, I would definitely feel vengeful and enormous all-consuming sadness.

Anyway, here's a video posted below showing Part 1/7 of the movie Batman: Under the Red Hood. You may like it or you may not. I'll be curious to see what your thoughts are about this movie though.
