Extract (2009). Written and directed by Mike Judge. The film stars Jason Bateman as Joel, owner of a factory that makes flavourings (or extracts). After an accident at his factory a worker loses a testicle, and things go downhill from there. Extract has a similar feel to Idiocracy, but unfortunately the jokes aren't as frequent, and it doesn't quite have the same scale (inevitably you could argue). Also the story seems to meander around, and isn't particularly sharp, along with odd unfulfilled characters. Idiocracy fans might get something from it, but it's that same old thing of probably needing to be at a very loose end. 2/5 (Poor)

Funnily enough, we have just this minute finished watching Idiocracy. We enjoyed it - some good gags in there.

Clearly a film that had a troubled creation, but a great idea that isn't a million miles away from reality.

There's a great short story by Cyril Kornbluth called "The Marching Morons" which has the same society gone moronic theme. Written at least a good thirty years ago, too.
