The Last Exorcism (2010). Directed by Daniel Stamm. The film is a mockumentary, following the Reverend Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian) who performs exorcism, among other religious rituals. Marcus admits he is a fraud, but justifies it on the basis that he provides a service to the believer, who in turn believes they are being exorcised and saved. Marcus agrees for personal reasons to expose exorcism as a fraud, and to this end a TV crew follow him to his final exorcism, of a young girl out in the countryside. The Last Exorcism follows in the footsteps of films like The Blair Witch Project, where there's plenty of setup and lots of shaky camera work. It takes around halfway through the film before spooky things start to happen, although even when they do it feels only marginally believable due to a mixture of hokey acting and ropey special effects. Probably best avoided unless you're a horror mockumentary fan. 2/5 (Poor)
