I got my IP camera yesterday from eBuyer, the Storage Options IP Camera.

I was hoping for a nice trouble free install, much like with the other bit of recent cheap tech, the Western Digital Live TV. I wasn't so lucky this time.

Of course I had to connect it initially to the router via a cable, to setup the wireless element. This all worked fine, and the bundled software found the camera quickly. When I disconnected the wire, instant loss of connection to the camera.

It doesn't help that the firmware is a bit hokey (spelling errors aplenty aside), and gives no indication whether the wireless connection has been made, whether wired or not. There is an LED on the front that flashes rapidly, showing that it isn't connecting though, but only when you disconnect the cable - it would be MUCH more helpful if I could troubleshoot the wireless connection when wired.

I followed the inevitably basic troubleshooting instructions, which suggested trying with no encryption. I was fairly sure it was an encryption compatibility issue, which I've had before. But even with encryption turned off it failed to work.

I've just spoken to their support and they say the unit is faulty, but I'd like to test it with another router before going through the rigmarole of returning it. I have a D-Link DIR-615 from Virgin Media, which is hardly the best router in the world.

Annoying though, as I'd hoped to get this working with the minimum of grief.
