Film Review: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011). Directed by David Yates. The story of course continues from Part 1, where Voldemort has just obtained the Elder Wand. Harry, Ron and Hermione are still pursuing horcruxes, with three left to find before they can kill Voldemort. The Death Eaters grip is firmer than ever though, with even Hogwarts taken over by Severus Snape. There's not an awful lot I can say about the Deathly Hallows Part 2. On the one hand watching any Harry Potter film is like putting on a pair of comfy slippers, as for me it's just good and fairly consistent entertainment. On the other hand I can recognise the story is basic, unoriginal, and even clumsy in some ways. The arguably frustrating thing about Harry Potter is that often this doesn't seem to matter because of the aforementioned comfiness of it all. Part 2 is the much more energetic sequel to Part 1, which felt like it was mostly spent in a tent. Special effects abound, and it's probably hard to spot a scene where they aren't used. Ultimately a great if not sad conclusion to the epic story, that will still be avoided by Harry Haters. A charitable 5/5 (Excellent).
