Film Reviews: The Troll Hunter (2011)
BB Piano
The Troll Hunter (2010). Written and directed by André Øvredal. The film is supposed to be based on found footage edited together to form a documentary. The footage was supposedly filmed by a Norwegian student film crew who accidentally get mixed up with a genuine troll hunter, Hans. When their car is destroyed by a troll, Hans invites them to film him at work. The Troll Hunter is an oddball film, if you hadn't guessed already. It takes itself pretty seriously, although it's hard to watch it without at least half a bemused smile. You could argue that it's a bit strange that a film crew would be permitted to talk to various people involved with trolls when this was clearly a huge secret, and that's probably the least logical bit of the film (trolls aside). Ultimately I wasn't hanging off the edge of my seat with anticipation, and it was more a case of just about scraping entertainment. 3/5 (Average)
