Film Reviews: Man on a Ledge (2012)
Man on a Ledge (2012). Directed by Asger Leth. The film starts with a man (Sam Worthington) checking into a hotel in New York City. After a meal of lobster, chips, and champagne, he climbs out onto the window ledge seemingly ready to commit suicide. The police respond within a few minutes, but given a short amount of time it is clear that this will not be an ordinary suicide. For the most part Man on a Ledge is a perfectly adequate thriller. Worthington is fine as the central character, as are the side characters such as Jamie Bell, and a rather skeletal Ed Harris. The only real let down, more from the writing I suspect, is Elizabeth Banks, who plays the police negotiator. On the whole the story is well paced and reasonable, if you aren't too worried about realism. For those who aren't too fussy about their thrillers. A charitable 4/5 (Good).
