Film Review: V/H/S (2012)
V/H/S (2012). Co-written and directed by Adam Wingard, David Bruckner, Ti West, Glenn McQuaid, Joe Swanberg, and Radio Silence. The film starts with a group of burglars breaking into a house to steal a VHS tape - a theft to order. In the house they find a dead man, sat in front of a group of TVs. There's a VHS tape there, which they put into the player and watch. For a second I thought V/H/S was going to be a copy of The Ring (1998), but rather than folks getting hunted down by some mysterious force, the tapes show short stories. There are five stories in all, which are all fairly inventive and gory. I actually quite liked the film, but at times it's a hard watch due to the strength of the story content (yes, I can be a horror film lightweight). Those who can cope with the jerky-camera-low-quantity nature of the found footage, the gore, and the somewhat original nature of the stories should enjoy it. 4/5 (Good)
