Film Review: A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)
A Tale of Two Sisters (2003). Written and directed by Kim Ji-Woon. The film starts with a psychiatrist attempting to treat a silent young girl, Su-mi. He shows her a photo and asks her to tell him about "that day". Time then moves forward and the same girl is travelling home with her father and shy sister, Su-yeon. At the house is her strict stepmother. During the night someone opens the door of Su-yeon's room, and pulls off her cover. A Tale of Two Sisters is pretty good as far as Asian horror films go. It manages to sustain a fair pace and eerie atmosphere throughout, and there are good performances from all concerned. The only real let down is a somewhat weak story, particularly towards the end, and uneven scares. It could have done with matching something like Ju-On in terms of showing more of the nasties, which oddly it does in one scene that's still too dark. Recommended for Asian horror fans. 4/5 (Good)
