Film Review: Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
Resident Evil: Retribution (2012). Directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. The story follows immediately from Resident Evil: Afterlife, with Alice (Milla Jovovich) defending a ship from the Umbrella Corporation. Alice is knocked from the ship by an explosion and then wakes up in an Umbrella Corporation base, having been captured. She is interrogated, but then escapes during a power failure. Resident Evil: Retribution seems to be a film of three parts. The first short part is the rather ridiculous (poor CG) ship sequence. The second part is much better, with the film almost returning to the heights of the very first film, as Alice tries to escape the base. The third part descends into the silliness of the sequels though, with more and more ridiculous battles, poor CG, and cliché, to the point where it gets boring. Fans of the sequels should enjoy it, as should fans of simplistic horror action. Everyone else will probably want to avoid. 3/5 (Average)
