Film Review: Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

Wreck-It Ralph (2012). Co-written and directed by Rich Moore. The film is set in an arcade, and when the lights go out all the characters in it come to life and meet up. Ralph (voiced by John C Reilly) is the bad guy in a Donkey Kong style game, called Fix-It Felix Jr, where he has to wreck a building. The good guy and player character is Felix, who unsurprisingly has to fix everything. The game is relatively old, yet still popular, and hits its 30th anniversary. When all the characters in the game celebrate without Ralph he decides enough is enough, and that he is sick of being the bad guy. Wreck-it Ralph is a fun film. It blends a few known games e.g. Sonic the Hedgehog, Q*bert, Street Fighter, Pac-Man, and some made up for the main story. The story itself moves along at a reasonable pace, blending the usual mix of jokes for both young and old (although perhaps on balance it favours the latter). Recommended for long-in-the-tooth gamers and older kids. 4/5 (Good)
