Film Review: Rust and Bone (2012)
Rust and Bone (2012). Co-written and directed by Jacques Audiard, and based on the short story collection by Craig Davidson. The film starts with a father, Alain (Matthias Choenaerts), and son, Sam (Armand Verdure), on a train. They're obviously both poor, and desperately hungry. Later, after they arrive at their destination, Alain steals a camera from a shop, leaving Sam temporarily lost. Rust and Bone was for me at least the ideal antidote to Silver Linings Playbook. Whereas the latter felt anaemic the former wasn't. The story is much darker and grittier, but I actually felt something for the characters, who were well played by a great cast. For those who like their films dark, gritty, and French. 4/5 (Good)
