Film Review: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013). Directed by Francis Lawrence and based on the book by Suzanne Collins. The story continues from the first film, with Katniss and Peeta living in a complex of houses for the victors, back in their home of District 12. The people of the world are uneasy though, and less tolerant of the Capitol's rule. In an attempt to quell a potential rebellion President Snow forces Katniss and Peeta to once again return to the Hunger Games. Mostly I felt the same about the Hunger Games 2 as I did the first film. For me the film doesn't really have much charm/soul. I haven't read the book, but it feels like the production overshadows the story. Also the characters feel very cliché and 1-dimensional. With the romance angle as well, I can't help but feel this is again really a film for teenage girls, or at least people who like that sort of thing. Which seems odd when blended with the action aspect. The story itself was very predictable and lacking in originality, although the predictability at least was somewhat inevitable knowing that this is a trilogy. 3/5 (Average)
