Film Review: Secret Window (2004)
Secret Window (2004). Based on a novella by Stephen King and directed by David Koepp. Initially the film is told in flashback, when writer Mort Rainey (Johnny Depp) discovers his wife and her lover at a motel. Some months later Rainey has moved to a small town to try and focus on his writing, but isn't getting anywhere. It's at that point a strange man knocks at the door, and says that he stole one of his stories. Secret Window is an interesting little horror film. It certainly has that Stephen King vibe, centring around a writer. The film has a great atmosphere, where you never quite know if you're in reality or nightmare. Just when you think the ending is going to be handled well it gets silly, and sadly ruins what was a good film to that point. Depp is on excellent form in an unusual role. Recommended for psychological horror fans who aren't too discerning. 3/5 (Average)
