Film Review: Bug (2006)
Bug (2006). Based on the play by Tracy Letts and directed by William Friedkin. The story starts in a motel room, where Agnes White (Ashley Judd) lives. Following the disappearance of her son some years previously she lives from party to party on alcohol and drugs. White's lesbian friend turns up with a drifter (Michael Shannon), who wants to be friends with her. It's clear that Bug has theatrical origins, as the film is essentially spent in the motel room. Judd and Shannon are simply superb in their respective roles, despite the limited location. The story itself is somewhat spartan, but this is more of an exercise in character drama and atmosphere. Recommended for those who like psychological horror. 4/5 (Good)
