Film Review: Enemy (2013)
Enemy (2013). Based on the novel by José Saramago and directed by Denis Villeneuve. The film starts with a man (Jake Gyllenhal) sitting in a car listening to a voicemail from his mother. The view briefly switches to a pregnant woman sitting alone in her bed. It then switches back to the man who take a key from a cloth, and uses it to enter some form of strip club. After the first show a woman brings in a covered silver dish. She uncovers the dish which has a tarantula on it. The tarantula climbs off the disk and the woman appears to crush it under her shoe. I do love a good mindfuck story, and Enemy does an exceptional job of that. Gyllenhal is superb as the main character, and supported by an excellent albeit minimalist cast. A must see for those who love a story that messes with your head. 5/5 (Excellent)
