Film Review: Blue Ruin (2013)
Blue Ruin (2013). Written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier. The film starts with a man (Macon Blair) having a bath. The homeowners return and the man leaps out of a side window and runs to the next house, where he grabs some clothes from a washing line. Blue Ruin is a revenge story, but a perfect antidote to the likes of the Taken films. This is a revenge story where people are real and flawed. Blair is good as the central character, although perhaps doesn't seem quite driven enough at times. He is surrounded by a good cast, particularly Devin Ratray who plays an old school friend. The film isn't extremely violent, but does have a fair few moments of both that and gore. Recommended for those who like grounded drama. 4/5 (Good)
