Film Review: The Congress (2013)
The Congress (2013). Based on a novel by Stanislaw Lem and directed by Ari Folman. The film starts in the present day. Robin Wright plays herself, albeit with a different family, and seemingly a different acting career. Her son is suffering from an illness that will destroy his hearing and sight, so when she has the opportunity to earn a significant amount of money albeit for a moral price she has a difficult decision to make. The Congress has received some strong critical praise, so I had high hopes for it. They were slowly dashed during the course of the film though. The first section of the film is live action, and hints at interesting things to come. It then switches to animation, which seems to be bizarre for the sake of it, that is there's little underlying supporting story. Perhaps someone will see some meaning in this Emperor's New Clothes, but I didn't. 1/5 (Awful)
