Film Review: The Signal (2014)
The Signal (2014). Co-written and directed by William Eubank. The film starts with three MIT students - Nic (Brenton Thwaites) and Haley (Olivia Cooke) are a couple, with their mutual friend Jonah (Beau Knapp). The night before they take Haley on a road trip to California they are hacked by someone who calls himself Nomad. They manage to get an address for Nomad, which happens to be on their way to California. At the address is an abandoned house, and when Nic and Jonah are investigating they hear Haley screaming from the car. The Signal was somewhat of a surprise. I was expecting by-the-numbers horror-lite, but it had both an interesting story, and some pleasant direction and cinematography. The soundtrack compliments the film well. My only real criticism was a slow pace in places, which I'm sure you could argue was to build atmosphere. Recommended for fans of quirky science fiction. 4/5 (Good)
