Film Review: The Rover (2014)
The Rover (2014). Co-written and directed by David Michôd. Exposition at the start of the film tells us that it's set in Australia, ten years after a global collapse. A man (Guy Pearce) stops his car at a very spartan bar in the middle of the desert. While he drinks at the bar a car approaches, containing three men. One of the men is wounded, and the result of an argument is they manage to crash the car. They then steal the man's car and drive off. The Rover is inevitably fairly grim viewing, set in a sort of post-apocalyptic Australia - although with Australia it can be hard to tell. It's very much a low budget film, which focuses on story and characters, and the former is a little slow paced at times. Ultimately though I found it a satisfying film, just not a classic. For those who enjoy gritty drama. 4/5 (Good)
