Film: Cold Souls (2009)
Cold Souls (2009). Written and directed by Sophie Barthes. The film opens with Paul Giamatti, playing a sort of alternate reality version of himself, reciting a passage from a play during a reading. He struggles to do the reading though due to some form of anxiety/crisis, and asks for a break. His agent recommends he read an article about a company that stores souls. My first thought when watching Cold Souls was how PK Dick-ian it was, it's just the sort of thing I could imagine him writing. Paul Giamatti is... well, Paul Giamatti. He is supported by a reasonable cast, including Nina the Soul Mule (Dina Korzun). Despite a brilliant concept the film doesn't quite do brilliant things with it. Also the story is unevenly paced, and dragged at times, for me at least. Recommended for fans of quirky science fiction who don't mind a slow pace. 4/5 (Good)
