Can anyone out there recommend some good software for a lazy person like me to compile a web based photo album?

I was using JAlbum before which was pretty good, but wondered if there was anything better.

It rocks. You can have a look at mine - http://www.hypertony.co.uk/gallery - see if you like it or not.

*laughs* Sorry. I should read more carefully. :P

Gallery is for online albums, so I don't think you need it. Sorry.

Hmmm, I need some software that can create a local set of HTML and thumbnail files, based on a folder with some photos in (at its most basic). Then I want to be able to upload this to my web site.

This is an example of what JAlbum does, but it looks a bit basic.

Make sense?

Gallery looks like it needs a web site with lots of bells and whistles, or am I missing something. My HTML skills are basic, but I have managed to FTP and create a web site.

http://www.stainlesssteelrat.net/Photos/index.html looks pretty basic to me. In the case, Gallery can do it too.

If your web space supports PHP, then you can do it.

If you like, I can set it up for you.

I know literally nothing about PHP. Can you give me a potted explanation of what it would offer?

PHP is just another programming language (server side)

You don't need to learn it because Gallery is already made/programmed by someone and all you have to do is to install it as per to the steps and it will work.

If you would like to find out more about PHP, check out http://www.php.net

I have had a look at Fasthosts' info and thye do support PHP. So that's no problem.

I've tried installing it, and when I access http://www.stainlesssteelrat.net/gallery/setup/index.php for the configuration wizard it just prompts to download rather than starting. Any ideas?

Ah ha... Microsoft IIS 5.0 !

Thought it's on a standard Linux webserver.

Sorry... you're out of luck on Gallery. :(

i'd recommend photostack (if you're into php) or snapgallery (if you like it simple and easy). both are excellent, imho, and easy to set up.
