Podcasts bring DIY radio to the web. So I followed the links here to the supposed excellent "Daily Source Code" podcast (bleugh). I downloaded today's entry and tried to listen to it for as long as I could. I know this is DIY radio, but this was just trash. For starters the guy seemed to be talking to his wife for the first few minutes on and off saying "I'm making a podcast!". Then he started saying how terrible this tsunami is in Asia, in this completely disaffected tone (whilst still shouting at his wife). If this is the best podcasting has to offer I think I'll give it a skip, I would rather listen to commercial radio (and listening to commercial radio is below "watching apple cores go brown" on my list of things to do).

Home based Internet radio stations have been around for years. Why they've suddenly coined the term "Podcasting" for it is beyond me...

(Yes, I know the iPod is popular now, but... you know?)

I think podcasting is this unique combination of recorded stations that are automatically downloaded to your player as feeds. All I can say is that the file I listened to is supposed to be the cream of crop, and what I could force myself to listen to was crap.

I have listened to a couple of streaming stations every now and then as I'm not much of a radio person anyway, but this was junk.

I totally agree. I gave it a go today, too. It was terrible.

There's loads of fantastic free Internet radio stations out there (my favourite being http://www.sonafm.com/ and Groove Salad). No idea why this whole Podcasting has tok off now. I've been downloading and streaming radio for years. Dumb slow media.

Holds no appeal to me at all.

I've listened to Groove Salad in the past also, good stuff.

I honestly can't see what people see in Podcasting either, they must be severly underentertained...

It's all about the media-friendly buzz words. And it's a shame.
